Michel Gondry

Born: 8th May 1963
A French film, commercial and music video director and an Academy Award-winning screenwriter.
Made many video’s for the French rock band Oui Oui in which he also served as a drummer.
He pioneered the "bullet time" technique later adapted in The Matrix.
Has worked with Daft Punk, The White Stripes, The Chemical Brothers, The Vines, Steriogram, Radiohead, and Beck.

We all love this video due to it’s simplicity, and it’s use of editing, making every introduced shot cut on the beat, something we are keen to include in our music video. The video also is edited to look seemless, travelling along the rail tracks into a town. Although I do think the repetitive nature of the video can become tedious after a while.

  1. nice post, ali - and a very interesting video. it is a masterpiece of editing. not sure you explain the technique as well as you might though. is it not supposed to be all one shot? do you mean each musical element is represented by a physical object. eg: the snare drums at the start represented by steel pylons. how exactly are you going to use this technique in your video?
